The lake does glimpse of autumn mirth,
Bluish waters with swan-whit hue see light,
Oak and marsh grass leaves do swirl on earth.
Waves impinge upon the boat in flight.
An aristocratic girl atop there sits astride;
From velvet mat below cold water creepeth high –
Her reflection caressed by a flow that glides.
Upon her body chill wind gusts fly!
Her lantern lit still but candle must die: Water clings to form thus and caught under sky.
On night stroll, he found a nymph fair,
Whose reflection on the water seemed divine; '
T’was beauty shines so bright that grieved stares compare
To twilight tears adorning her sweet design.
Ah! Ruby-tinged face with hair of liquid gold,
Her pearl-like eyes an ocean too vast to tell;
The majesty alone was fit for kings untold –
'twas ugliness aloft she did repel.
His heart swooned at the sight and salty dews,
Her locks melded as winds caressed each curl:
Loveliest art by Nature thus imbued –
O grandeur in grace far beyond this world!
Twas love at first sight when their eyes did meet,
His heart had filled that moment in time -
To give her courage and gentle rhyme: "Fear not," he said soft like a dove's song
"For I'm here now to make you strong."
